Content:“A Compilation of Modern Chinese Photography” is a topic that has often been overlooked, despite having significant historical significance and providing insight into photographic theory. This compilation includes groundbreaking photographic theory collected and complied by You Longxi over the last twenty years. The book includes essays from famous scholars, artists, and photographers, including from Cai Yuanpei, Kang Youwei, Hu Shi, Lu Xun, Yu Pingbai, Feng Zikai, Liu Bannong, Xu Beihong, among others. Twenty six years ago, a book about Chinese ethnic minority photography complied by Long Xizu was published by the Inter-Art Gallery publishing house. On May 30th at 10am we invited Long Aizu, “Chinese Photographers” magazine editor Li Shufeng, Chinese photography historical document investigator Zhao Jun, art critic Bao Kun, Inter-Art Gallery director and curator Na Risong, famous photography critic and translator Mao Weidong to participate in a panel discussion with the China Nationality Photographic Art Publishing House director Yin Dejian. The topic of their discussion was trends in contemporary Chinese photography aesthetic and compilation.
Long Xizu is a famous photographer and theorist from Wuhan city in Hubei province. In 1949 he joined the People’s Liberation Army and in 1950, in an effort to help North Korea, he participated in a resistance against the United States. Then, in 1956, he began studying at Henan Normal University. next, he began working for “China Photography” magazine as an editor, "People's Film" magazine as an executive editor, and as a researcher on theoretical photography for the Chinese Photographers Association. He published books such as "On the Art of Photography" which will be translated into English. He then worked as a professor at the Central University for Nationalities, and as the director of the Institute of Modern Imagery which he established in 1994.
