Theme:Thoughts on Documentary Photography—A discussion on You Lidi’s Photography
Content:Why we are focusing on poverty? There was a time when realism was regarded as the character of Chinese documentary photographers works, in which they are aware of the poverty and people’s livelihood. As the Chinese society accelerates, the economy continues to grow. Furthermore, the art market has been developing as well and an “imagery Chinese dream” has been created with neo-salon photographs and so called “bright-narcissistic” photographs. Under such circumstances, should photographers keep their focus on poverty and the disadvantaged? How many people are suffering besides you? How many facts are still being untold? On May 30th at 2pm, Inter-Art Gallery invites the public to come together and and discuss the history of documentary photography and contradictions in Chinese contemporary photographic theory.
